Wound healing is a complex process involving an interplay between haemostasis inflammation proliferation and repair, aimed at restoring the skin to its original structure and function following insult. The final result may be a scar with an unacceptable appearance to the patient. The scar may be atrophic, hypertrophic or keloidal and may be hyperpigmented or hypopigmented.
