Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition of the mid face characterised by erythema, facial flushing, blepharitis and more severely, phymatous changes affecting the skin. Symptoms may be aggravated by sudden changes in temperature, sun exposure, certain foods, alcohol as well as certain medications. There are a range of conditions that may mimic rosacea including seborrheic dermatitis, acne and lupus erythematosus. Treatments include prescription based topical and oral medications for milder cases. In certain cases, light based therapies may result in a more permanent reduction in redness and electrosurgery, ablative laser and traditional surgery may be required for phymatous changes. Because of the range of mimicking conditions and treatments available, it’s important to have a thorough assessment from a medical doctor prior to undertaking a course of treatment.
